Johan Santana signs with O's
After recently signing Nelson Cruz and Ubaldo Jimenez, the Baltimore Orioles continue their late offseason spending spree, signing 34 year old starting pitcher Johan Santana to a minor league deal. Santana missed all of 2013 with surgery on his left shoulder, which also shortened his rough 2012 season. Santana also missed all of 2011. But before that, Santana was one of the best pitchers in baseball, making 3 All Star games and winning 2 Cy Young Awards. Santana first broke into the bigs in 2000 with Minnesota, and quickly became an elite starting pitcher. Prior to the 2008 season, Santana was traded to the Mets in a deal that included Carlos Gomez. He continued his dominance in New York, having solid seasons in 2009 and 2010, but it's been injuries ever since. Santana is expected to compete for a job in the rotation in Baltimore.
